What is the gig economy in United Kingdom?

The gig economy is a relatively new way of working in United Kingdom. It enables UK freelancers, contractors, remote workers, digital nomads or even Full Time Employees looking for a side hustle, to complete outcome based work assignments, rather than historical time based model (daily/hourly rate).

The UK gig economy is opening up new work opportunities for different demographics. Such as students; stay at home parents; semi-retired; new migrants to a country; backpackers on work holidays.

Whether you are a freelancing copywriter in Auckland NZ, a web developer contractor in Brisbane Australia, a student in Toronto Canada or a backpacker travelling around the world, we have the UK or global gigs for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a great gig listing? arrow-right
The gig is a defined task, with a pre-determined outcome. If you ensure your scope of expected work is detailed, with a level of quality specified, this will reduce any miscommunication/misinterpretation when gig workers review.
Are gig workers verified? Can I trust them? arrow-right
All gig workers must be identity verified by Stripe when registering as a gig worker. This adds an additional level of trust to our platform. Because we offer a reputation service, you can also see all historical work conducted by the worker. This quickly builds trust within the marketplace, but also removes fraudsters and scammers. Any behaviour that breaches our platform standards results in those worker being removed from our platform.
How do I know I will be paid for my gig? arrow-right
Our leading payment provider will independently hold the money, for security and peace of mind for the gig worker, as well as a robust disputes policy and reducing fraud on the platform. Once you have completed the work, the gig lister will be notified and they will release payment once they are satisfied with the work completed, as outlined and agreed in the gig listing. For more information about pay in general, go to our Help Centre pay section
Can I modify the gig in-flight if the scope and/or pricing needs to change? arrow-right
If the gig was set as negotiate, then yes. For fixed price, no. When replying to a fixed price, you are accepting the terms and price set out in the gig. For more information, see our help centre gig section. Please note, any changes you make to the gig are additional and any price is additional to what has already been paid.
